Waxing Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Waxing Down South does offer or perform waxing services on men from the waist up. This includes nose, ears, chest, stomach, back, and arms. We do NOT offer waxing for below the waist for me.  Waxing Down South is committed to maintaining an environment that feels safe and comfortable for both women and men. Inappropriate behavior from either gender will not be tolerated and will be handled accordingly.

It's best to be well hydrated and use gentle exfoliation several days before your first appointment. If your skin is dehydrated, it tends to hold onto the hair which can result in breakage rather than complete removal from the root. Don't forget to chill out! The more tense you are, the more pain you experience. It has been our experience that taking an over the counter analgesic 45 minutes before your appointment will alleviate some pain.  Refraining from alcohol and caffeine is always a good idea as well.

Waxing Down South requires that every client fill out our comprehensive electronic consent form before their first appointment. You will find the link to the form in your welcome email.

Be sure to verify the location of your  appointment , and check out the directions on the contact us page.

She has completed the necessary esthetics education and state licenses as well as continuing education to have a strong background in skin health. Alexis goes through extensive ongoing trainings to continually stay on top of the latest techniques and best practices.

Rest assured you’re in the best hands possible.  If you have any questions regarding your waxing procedure or post-skin care treatment, Alexis is happy to take the time to properly educate you.   At Waxing Down South, you are not going to feel like just another number.  We love our clients and will take the time to make sure your Brazilian Wax and any other service experience is professional and the best wax experience you’ve ever had.

You have three different hair growth cycles that are each approximately 10 days long so, we recommend consistently waxing every 4 weeks. Please be aware that you may not be 100% smooth the very first time you wax. Because of the different hair growth cycles, your hair may grow back "patchy". The more consistent you are, the smoother you'll be. There are many benefits to maintaining a regular hair removal cycle. Waxing regularly will cause the hair to grow back finer, thinner, and more sparse.

We do our best to make your experience as pain free as possible. Here are some tips to help minimize the pain:

  • Be consistent. This results in a less painful wax. Get on a consistent schedule and stick to it! Year-round is ideal.

  • Try to avoid caffeine before your appointment. Caffeine is a stimulant and can make your skin more sensitive.

  •  Exfoliate 2 days before you come in.

  • You are welcome to invest in a great numbing cream if you’d like.

  • The second appointment is less painful than the first and gets easier each time you come in.

  •  We also suggest scheduling your first appointment right after your period. Your pain threshold is higher during that time, and you'll be more comfortable.

  • Stop shaving! We like you to come to see us about 3-4 weeks after your last shave. Shaving causes the hair to lay very flat and does not allow for the wax to shrink wrap around the hairs. Shaving also can make the hair more resistant to removal via wax.

Your hair follicles will be open for up to 24 hours after waxing and during this time, you will want to avoid sexual intercourse, swimming pools, hot tubs, and rigorous exercise to limit sweating and skin irritation. Your skin may also be more sensitive.  If your skin feels extremely irritated or is painful to the touch after the first day, it’s best to text Waxing Down South and speak with Alexis about the symptoms you are experiencing.  Alexis is highly trained in skincare and will be able to assist you. It is imperative to protect any freshly waxed skin from sun exposure.

Be prepared that waxing may be more painful if you're on your period. If you are not shy, Alexis has no problem waxing you, providEd proper hygiene has been exercised, ie a fresh tampon or cup is in place. Personal care products are also available in the treatment room if needed.

No need to be extra early for your appointment! Arrive about five minutes early to your first appointment, just in case you need to use the restroom or if you need to fill out your online consent form, to be ready for your aesthetician at the start of your appointment! As a returning client, you are able to arrive right on time, but you can arrive early and wait until your appointment time in our  waiting area and use the restroom or grab some water before your appointment time arrives. We request you come in early, or on time, as our appointments are scheduled by service time and back to back! If you are running late, we have a grace period of 5 minutes before there is not enough time in the appointment until the next client arrives, if later than 5 minutes, we can help you rescheduled as needed!

For traditional waxing,  we advise 1/2 of an inch of hair. While everyone's hair grows at a different rate, this generally takes 10-14 days after your last shave. Please be aware that thinner hair hurts less.

First timers, for best results 4 weeks of grow post shaving for a more comfortable and smooth result.

No need to worry about trimming, if the hair is too long your aesthetician will trim the hair where necessary.

After 24 hours, we advise gentle exfoliation (with emphasis on the gentle). As this is practiced daily, the likelihood of various skin irritations may be greatly reduced. It has been our experience that combining mechanical and chemical exfoliation provides the best results. We offer a variety of products to help with this process. Please ask your aesthetician to educate you about which products may be best for your skin type!

If you are on medication that increases your skin's photosensitivity, you may not be a good candidate for waxing. If you are using Retin-A or retinol products on your skin, discontinue the use of these products 3-5 days before your appointment. Clients taking the oral prescription Accutane should wait 6-12 months before waxing and/or have a medical physicians release.
